Spring Into Fashion ‘22 was a fashion showcase to remember! Held on April 9, featured six collections from final year students of the Bachelor in Apparel Design, Production and Management Programme at the University of Technology, Jamaica.
Regina Johnson was the first designer to grace the catwalk. Her collection entitled ‘Guarded Freedom’ had a simply elegant theme, designed to bring out the confidence within women. She was followed by Toni Lawrence’s showcase under the theme ‘A Hint of Rose’. This was inspired by pink roses which highlighted her blossoming love for fashion.
Camech Stevens’ designs titled ‘House of Latter’ were next. These channelled her optimism and zest for life. ‘Apparel for the Creative Soul’ by Kamese Wray followed, with designs that incorporated her love for sustainable clothing. Rose Ann Morris with her collection titled ‘Beyond the Boundary was next. She describes herself as a force to be reckoned with, and recalls how going beyond the boundary has made the impossible possible. Finally was Crystal McCurdy. Inspired by red, white and gold roses, her collection was named ‘Luxurious Romance.’
The designs gave us a glimpse into the designers, their personalities and their inspirations. For many of them, this was the first showcase and hopefully a launching pad for their careers in the fashion industry.
